Rock Rapids, IA Mildred Millie Haviland, age 81 of Rock Rapids, IA died Friday, December 16, 2011 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, December 19th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Dan Kordahl, officiating. Burial will be 9:30 AM, Monday at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Sunday, December 18th from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Mildred Millie Mae (Dengler) Haviland was born August 26, 1930, on a farm south of Rock Rapids, IA the daughter of Laura (Berg) and Otto Dengler. Millie grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Mildred graduated from Rock Rapids High School in 1948 and then continued her education at Westmar College in LeMars, IA, graduating with a diploma in elementary education. Millie was united in marriage to James Haviland on December 30, 1952 in Rock Rapids, IA. Millie taught country school for five years. From 1966 thru 1994, she worked for the Central Lyon Community school district as a teacher and a librarian. She also worked for seventeen years as a clerk at Rexall in Rock Rapids. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids where she was baptized, confirmed, married and taught Sunday school for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed doing jig-saw puzzles, cross word puzzles, playing piano and accordian, reading and crocheting. She was a loving wife, caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be greatly missed. This past Friday morning, December 16, 2011, Millie died at the Avera McKennen Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of eighty-one. She is survived by her husband, James Haviland of Rock Rapids; daughters, Bonnie Haviland of Rock Rapids and Becky (Gregory) Jansen of Alton, IA; grandchildren Noah (Sybil) Jansen of Alton; Laura Jansen of Omaha, NE; Isaiah Jansen of Alton, IA and his fiance, Ashley Abbott of Brandon, SD; Micah Jansen of Alton, IA and his special friend, Katelyn Van Klompenburg of Maurice, IA; great grandchildren, Adin and Abigail Jansen of Alton, IA; sister, Martha (Cliff) Phipps of Spirit Lake, IA and brother, Loren (Vi) Dengler of Rock Rapids, IA along with many other relatives and friends. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
