Lena May Kruger

Ashton, Iowa Lena Kruger, age 90 of Ashton, IA died Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 26th at First Presbyterian Church in Ashton, IA, with Pastor Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow the luncheon at the Zion Presbyterian Cemetery, rural George, IA. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 25th from 2 " 8 PM, with the family present from 6 " 8 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Ashton. Lena Mae Kruger was born on December 15, 1917, the daughter of Meindert and Anna (Uden) Johnson in Lyon County, Iowa. On September 12, 1946, Lena was united in marriage to Helmer Kruger. Lena was blessed with eight children, four from Helmers first marriage, and four from their marriage together. Lena was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ashton. She was a homemaker most of her life until the death of her husband when she started babysitting for many families in Ashton. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. Lena loved for her children and her grandchildren to come visit as often as they could. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Lena is survived by her children: Marlys Osburn and friend Chuck Barringer of Las Vegas, NV, Virginia (husband Burdell) Meinerts of Little Rock, IA, Beatrice (husband Don) Moore of Las Vegas, NV, Delores (husband Lloyd) Krull of George, IA, Thelma Hatting of Ashton, Helmer (wife Joyce) Kruger of Westminister, CO and Lyle (wife Gale) Kruger of Cherokee, IA; forty-nine grandchildren, fifty great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Christina Freese and Esther Krogman, both of Ashton, IA; and one brother Merlyn (wife Judy) Johnson of Ashton. She was preceded in death by her husband Helmer; her parents; one son, Eugene (Bob) Kruger; one son-in-law, Charles Hatting, two brothers, Bill and Alfred Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Clara Johnson and Johanna Johnson; one brother-in-law, Leonard Krogman; and two grandsons.
