Sibley, IA Dorothy Johannes age 86 of Ashton, IA died Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, IA. Memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3rd, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ashton, IA, with Father Alan Reicks officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Ashton. Dorothy was born at home in Ashton on July 2, 1928 the daughter of the Late Rosemary (Opegenorth) and William J. Johannes. Dorothy graduated St. Joseph High School in Ashton. She went on to graduate from Mt. Ida College in Newton, MA. She worked for Phillips Petroleum Company in Minneapolis, MN for several years before returning to Ashton to care for her widowed father up until the time of his death. She spent her remaining years in Ashton. She was a parishioner at St. Mary's Church. Dorothy served on the board of the Ashton Public Library and a member of the Ashton American Legion Auxiliary. She was devoted to her pets. Earlier in life she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family at their cottage on Hayward's Bay at West Lake Okoboji. Like her father Bill, Dorothy kept an active interest in politics and current affairs throughout her life. She is survived by her sister Eileen (Johannes) Martel of Lynn, MA and her niece Mary Taylor, and nephews Daniel, James and Michael Martel. Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister Mary Clare (Johannes) Shupe, her brother in law Carl Shupe and their children William Shupe, John Shupe.
