Hills, MN Mary Carter, age 97 of Hills, MN died Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls, SD. Family will be having a private funeral service on Friday, December 12th at Jurrens Funeral Home in Hills, MN with Pastor Ron Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery in Hills. Mary was born December 18, 1916 in Wimbledon, North Dakota to the late Thor and Helen (White) Feragen. Her husband, the late James R. Carter, passed away in July of 2000. They had been married for 63 years. Mary graduated from Sioux Falls, Washington High School. She attended Nettleton Business School and worked in retail. She and James farmed near Sioux Falls and then Colton, South Dakota until 1956 when they moved to California. They returned to the area in 1987, living in Hills, MN. Mary was active in the Hills Lutheran Church with the sewing group that provided many quilts to missionaries. Mary is survived by her five children: Marilyn Metzger of Sioux Falls; Ron (Joyce) Carter, of Las Vegas, NV; Jean (Dennis) Smith of Lititz, PA; John (Julie) Carter of Lake Havasu City, AZ; and Tom (Missy) Carter of Las Vegas, NV. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 8 great, great-grandchildren; her brother, Robert (Madlin) Feragen, of Willmette, Illinois; and her sister, Betty (Mervin) Guthmiller of Menno, SD. She was preceded in death by two great-granddaughters; Melissa Berg and Amanda Carter, 3 sisters; Eva Borrud, Kay Millett, and Doris Farrell, and one brother; Don Feragen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Daybreak Adult Services at 2300 West 46th Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57105.
