Rock Rapids, IA Lucille Nelson age 99 of Rock Rapids, IA died Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation in Rock Rapids, IA. A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Luverne Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Luverne, MN. Burial will be prior to the service at Eden Cemetery in Hudson, SD. Signe Mable Lucille Nelson was born October 11, 1915 at LaGrand Township, Douglas County, Minnesota. She was an only child of August R. and Mary (Larson) Nelson. Being raised on a family farm she developed a love for Jehovah's creation, especially animals like cats and chickens. On May 31, 1934 she graduated from Brandon High School in Brandon, MN and continued her education at Moorhead State Teacher's College in 1940, University of South Dakota in 1945, and University of South Dakota receiving a Specialist Degree in Education in 1969. She held teaching positions in Wheaton, MN, Sauk Centre, MN, Sioux Falls, SD and Hudson SD. She retired from teaching at Luverne, MN. She took a break in her education and the teaching of others to care for her loving father. She has always been noted for putting others interest ahead of her own. She found that a spiritual education from the study of God's Word the Bible to be the most important education possible, and that it leads to everlasting life. She dedicated her life to Jehovah and symbolized it by water baptism on April 20, 1969. As a member of the Luverne Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses she volunteered her time and energies to assist others to come to an accurate knowledge of Jehovah God. She served as a regular pioneer from 1980 until her death. In her later years she would encourage others by words of comfort from the Bible, writing to individuals who lost loved ones in death. As a dear sister of our spiritual family she will indeed be missed, but our fond memories of her will continue, as she has made a fine name for herself with her loving heavenly Father, Jehovah. She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Mary Nelson.
