Sibley, IA Donald M. Hatting age 87 of Sibley, IA, died Wednesday December 24, 2014 at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 27th at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Sibley, IA, with Fr. Alan Reicks and Fr. Timothy Hogan concelebrating. Burial will follow at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Sibley, IA. Visitation will be Friday, December 26th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. There will be a Rosary at 5 p.m. and prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Donald M. Hatting was born on July 30, 1927 on the family farm to Henry B. and Margaret (Seitz) Hatting near Ashton, IA. Donald came from a family of 12 children (6 boys and 6 girls). Donald grew up on the farm and attended St. Joseph Catholic School. On October 15, 1951 he married Elizabeth J. Karsten at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Sibley, IA. Donald was drafted and enlisted in the Army and served in France from 1952 thru 1954. After returning home to Sibley IA he purchased a milk can route and grew the business up to two bulk milk hauling trucks. Donald had the milk trucks for 16 years and then worked as a Field Service Representative for Associated Milk Producers Inc. in Sibley, IA for 22 years and retired in July 1992. Donald and Elizabeth enjoyed 16 great winters in Mesa, AZ and they were great volunteers for the activities at The View Point Resort. Donald's hobbies were cards, pool, golfing (Don made a hole in one in AZ), bingo, bowling, fishing, camping and gardening. Donald and Elizabeth became residents of Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, IA on August 2, 2011. Donald is a member of St. Andrew's Church, a member of Knights of Columbus, was a Eucharist minister and served on the parish council. Donald is a life-time member of the William F. Allard, VFW Post No. 7373 and a member of the George E. Mudge, American Legion Post No. 324 in Sibley, IA. Family was of utmost importance to Donald. He showed his children and grandchildren the importance of hard work, the value of serving others, and the joy of laughter. Most importantly Donald showed them how to love unconditionally and to enjoy life. Donald is survived by his wife Elizabeth and three children, Betty Jo and husband Daniel Wessels of Sibley, IA, Donna L. Hatting of Maplewood, MN and Patrick D. and wife Kimberly Hatting of Grinnell, IA. Donald also has five grandchildren. Rebecca and husband Chet Stofferan of Sibley, IA. Danelle and husband Joseph Williams of White Bear Lake, MN and Kaylynn Hatting, Ashton Hatting and Liliann Hatting of Grinnell, IA. One great-grandson, Joseph Jacob Williams of White Bear Lake, MN. Donald is survived by his sister Marcella "Sally" Klein of Ashton, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings, Bernadine Arning, Martin Hatting, Evelyn (Schierholt) Holdgrafer, Charles Hatting, Lawrence Hatting, Harold Hatting, Margaret Eben, Henry Hatting in infancy and two step-sisters, Regina Muilengburg and Caroline Kenninger.
