Sibley, IA Frederick "Fritz" Ommen, age 72 of Sibley, IA died Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley, with Reverend Barb Kopperud officiating. Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, IA. Visitation will be Monday, February 2nd from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Frederick "Fritz" Peter Ommen was born on February 21, 1942, to Harry and Marion (Knapp) Ommen in Sibley, Iowa. He attended Sibley schools as a child, and was confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley. Fritz was united in marriage to Gertrude Iedema on May 8, 1964, at the Christian Reformed Church, in Ocheyedan. To this union, three boys were born, Kevin, Reggie and Kendell. Fritz was always a proud and hardworking man. He ran a Corn Sheller for twenty years, all over the county. He farmed for fifty plus years, on the family farm, and a few other locations. Between crops and livestock, Fritz and Gert stayed very busy. He enjoyed snowmobiling in earlier years. He had a motorcycle at one time, that he enjoyed riding; he enjoyed it even more when he took the exhaust off of it, just to get a rise out of Cloverdale residents. He and Gert enjoyed almost fifty-one years of marriage, they were a team, together they raised three strong hardworking men, they are very proud of their kids and grandkids. Fritz is survived by Gert, his wife of fifty-one years; three children, Kevin Ommen, Reggie (Carol Reiter) Ommen and Kendell (Chrissy) Ommen; six grandchildren, Sonya (Julian) Peters, Sarah Ommen, Tyler Ommen, Trista Ommen, Taia Ommen and Kensy Ommen; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Ommen and Oliver Peters; one sister, Marjorie DeVillier; and other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Marion; parents-in-law, Bernard and Ella Iedema; a brother-in-law, Cal DeVillier; and a sister-in-law, Janet Iedema.
