Duane Gene Faber

Duane Faber, age 60 of Canton, SD formerly of Beaver Creek, MN died on Sunday, Feb 8, 2015 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD after a lengthy and hard fought battle with cancer. Private family service will be Thursday. Visitation will be Wednesday February 11, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills, MN. Duane Gene Faber was born and raised near Beaver Creek, MN the son of Gerrit and Harriet Faber. He graduated from Hills Beaver Creek High School in 1972. Duane "Dewey" grew up on a farm and learned the lessons of a hard work ethic. Along with milking cows he and his family also raised cucumbers to be sold for making pickles. The work was hard but growing up on the farm as he did, Dewey learned many of the down home values we all endear. He not only learned how to work but he learned how to treat people. Dewey had many many friends and was an easy person to get along with. With his quick wit, laughter and genuine caring of other people, he was easy to love. He will be greatly missed by those that were privileged to be close to him. Dewey loved the outdoors. As a young man Dewey's dad taught him to hunt and fish. He was a very good fisherman and could catch fish when others couldn't which no doubt led to a joke or two over the years. Hunting deer was another favorite thing for Dewey to do. He loved being in the outdoors and appreciated the nature that God made. He passed that appreciation on to his children, along with other meaningful and valuable lessons. One of Dewey's favorite sayings he passed on to his children was "Forgive and Forget, but remember to Forget what you Forgave". Dewey's children and grandchildren meant the world to him. If asked what was the most important part of life for Dewey he would answer Family. After a long and difficult struggle with cancer, Duane Gene Faber passed away Sunday February 8, 2015. He'll be remembered always. He is survived by his fiancé, Sharon Skaien of Canton, SD; children, Shane Faber, Nichole Faber and Dustin Faber, all of Sioux Falls, SD; step-son, Jesse Green of Sioux Falls, SD; five grandchildren, Kayla Faber, Natalia Faber, Anthony, Kyra and Kelsey Weiss, all of Sioux Falls, SD; siblings, Audrey (Gene) DeSmet of Hills, MN, Gary of Sioux Falls, SD; Kathy (Irwin) Rozeboom of Beaver Creek, MN, Trudy Acevedo of Sioux Falls, SD; Wendall of Brookings, SD. Dewey was preceded in death by his parents.
