Sibley, IA Ethel Miller, age 89 of Sibley, IA died Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Sibley Nursing and Rehab in Sibley, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Monday, February 23, 2015 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Sibley with Father Allan Reicks celebrating. Private family inurnment will take place on Tuesday, February 24th in the St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Sibley, IA. Visitation will be Sunday, February 22nd from 2-8 PM with the family present from 6-8 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. There will be a rosary at 5:00 PM and a vigil service at 5:30 PM Sunday evening. Ethel Dorothy Miller was born on June 25, 1925 on the family farm southwest of Sibley, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Martina (Nemmers) Wagner. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School and graduated from Sibley High School. She received her teacher's certificate and taught at the Franklin School District #3 in O'Brien County. Later she taught 1st through 8th grade in a one room school house near Boyden, IA. She was united in marriage to Doyle A. Miller on June 4, 1947. Because Doyle was a Postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service they lived various places. They first lived in Sheldon, IA and Ethel worked at John's Central Shoe Store and J.C. Penney's. They moved to Archer and then to Sibley, IA, and she worked at Wille's Department Store. Ethel enjoyed gardening, baking, canning, sewing, crocheting, knitting, quilting and playing cards. She appreciated music, and played the piano and saxophone as a young woman. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Sibley, Catholic Daughters of America, and taught CCD classed for many years. She also was a member of the "100 Club" in Ashton. On June 4, 2007 Ethel and Doyle celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. On March 3, 2008 Doyle passed away. She continued living at her home until entering Sibley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She remained there until this past Wednesday, where she died at the age of 89. She is survived by her two sons, Robert (Mary Beth) Miller of Lisle, Illinois and Thomas (Debra) Miller of Lakewood, Colorado; four grandchildren, Mike Miller of Littleton, Colorado, Marc Miller of Littleton, Colorado, Steve Miller of Woodridge, Illinois and Linda Miller of Woodridge, Illinois.; one sister, Evelyn Ament of West Point, Nebraska; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Martina Wagner; and three brothers, Walter, John and Donald Wagner.
