Sibley, IA Rose Marie Swalve age 75 formerly of May City, IA died Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, IA. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in May City, IA, with Reverend Neil Wehmas officiating. Burial will follow in the Baker Township Cemetery, rural Melvin, IA. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 15th from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Rose Marie Swalve was born on March 15, 1940 in Hartley, IA, the daughter of Willy and Mildred (Dickman) Mohr. Rose and her family moved to May City, IA shortly after she was born and she grew up there and attended Harrison #8 Country school and graduated from Hartley High School in 1958. On August 30, 1964, Rose was united in marriage to Dwaine C. Swalve at the St. John's Lutheran Church in May City, IA. To this union two daughters were born, Shari and Susan. Rose and Dwaine lived in Ocheyedan, IA from 1964 until 1977 when they moved to May City, IA. Dwaine passed away on August 15, 1997 and Rose continued to live in May City until 2009, when she moved to the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, IA. Rose worked various job throughout her life such as before she was married she worked as a secretary for Joe Morton Insurance in Sioux City, IA. After she got married she babysat for a time and then worked at the Wellness Center in Hartley, IA for ten years. Rose was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in May City, IA, where she was active as a Sunday school teacher, and as a member of the LWML ladies group. She loved to attend Bible Study and enjoyed making quilts during the winter months at church. She was an avid gardener, liked to make table center pieces and made hundreds of them. She also loved to travel and was fortunate enough to visit all fifty states. Rose will be greatly missed. Rose is survived by her two daughters: Shari (Dave) Iverson of Fairmont, MN and Susan (Don) Hutzel of Melvin, IA; one granddaughter, Nicole Philiph of Brookings, SD; two step-grandchildren: Cassie and Nathan Hutzel; one step great-granddaughter, Rylee; aunt-in-law, Donna Dickman of Logan, IA; and several nieces and nephews and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwaine; parents, Willy and Mildred; one brother, Gary Mohr; and son-in-law, Perry Philiph.
