Doon, IA Donna Mae Gerber, age 80 of Doon, IA died Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, after a sudden illness. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 5th at the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester, IA. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in Lester, IA. Visitation will be Monday, May 4th with family present from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Hall in Lester. Donna Mae Gerber was born April 12, 1935, to John and Rose (Kellenberger) Moser. She was one of thirteen children and grew up on a farm near Larchwood, IA. She attended school at Larchwood Township #2. Donna was united in marriage to John Gerber on October 2, 1953. Together they made their home in Lester, IA. John and Donna became members of the Apostolic Christian Church of Lester in 1954. They then moved to a farm near Lester, where they raised five children. In 1985, they relocated to Mesa, AZ and lived there for 15 years. In 2000, John and Donna returned to Iowa, retiring to Doon, IA. Donna was a very happy homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and gardening. She especially enjoyed making cookies for her grandchildren. Faith and family were most important to her. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. Following a sudden illness, Donna passed away this past Friday, May 1, 2015, surrounded by her family at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Gerber of Doon, IA; five children, Jeff (Shelley) Gerber of Queen Creek, AZ, Greg (Wanda) Gerber of Rock Valley, IA, David (Sherryl) Gerber of Yuma, AZ, Sheryl (Tom) Bouwman of Rock Rapids, IA, and Cynthia (Brian) Blankespoor of Rock Valley; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mariann (Elmer) Metzger, Estelle Leuthold, Janet Wysong, all of Hills, MN; Evelyn (Roy) Metzger of Bloomfield, IA; one brother, Frank Moser of Larchwood, IA; one sister-in-law, Leona Moser of Lester, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rose Moser; five brothers, John, Johnny, Donald, Harry and Leo; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ione (John) DeHaan and Betty (Paul) Leuthold. In addition, brothers-in-law, Alvin Leuthold and Jack Wysong.
