Donna Liechty age 83 of Sibley, IA, died Monday May 25, 2015 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2015 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Sibley, IA, with Fr. Alan Reicks and Fr. Tom Flanagan concelebrating. Burial will follow at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Sibley, IA. Visitation will be Thursday, May 28th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. There will be a Rosary at 5:30 p.m. and prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Donna Mae (Flanagan) Liechty was born October 18, 1931 at Garretson, South Dakota, the daughter of James and Mary (Buckley) Flanagan. She moved with her parents at an early age to their farm near Rock Rapids, Iowa where she attended country school. She graduated from Rock Rapids High School in 1950 and from the McKennan School of Nursing in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1953. Donna worked as a registered nurse at McKennan Hospital, Seaside Memorial Hospital in Long Beach, California, and later at the Rock Rapids Hospital. On January 4, 1954 Donna married Carl E. Liechty at Holy Name Catholic Church at Rock Rapids, Iowa. They moved to Long Beach, California where Carl was serving in the U.S. Navy. They returned to Rock Rapids and later moved to Sibley in 1957. Here they made their home and raised their family of seven children. They owned and operated Liechty Radio and TV for over 30 years. In 1988, Donna moved with her husband to Houston, Texas and lived there before returning to Sibley and settled into retirement in 1991. Donna was a long time member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Sibley. She was an active member of St. Andrew's Guild, the Catholic Daughters of America and assisted with CCD classes. Donna enjoyed sewing, crafts, walks, traveling with her husband and friends. Survivors include her husband, Carl, two daughters, Carole and her husband Douglas Hensch of Sibley and Patty and her husband Dan Huisenga of Ames, Iowa; five sons, Bob and his wife Deb of Marion, Iowa, Ron and his wife Kris of Cypress, Texas, John and his wife Christine of Houston, Texas, Jim and his wife Holly of Houston, Texas, and Tom and his wife Linda of League City, Texas. Donna is also survived by her 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mariel Krier of Larchwood, Iowa; sister-in-law, Beth Flanagan of Walla Walla, Washington, and numerous nieces and nephews. Donna was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Flanagan.
