Wayne Schubert age 88 of Sibley, IA died Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Sibley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Sibley, IA. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 26th, 2015 at the Jurrens Funeral Home Walton Chapel in Sibley, with Rev. Emmanuel T. Naweji officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery in Ocheyedan, IA. Visitation will be 1:00 PM until time of service with family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home Walton Chapel of Sibley. Wayne Schubert was born on April 18, 1927 near Harris, Iowa, the son of Henry and Hannah (Helkenn) Schubert. Wayne grew up on the family farm south of Harris, attended country school and completed the eighth grade. Wayne farmed alongside his brothers, and father on the family farm until he was inducted into the US Army on June 22, 1951. Wayne served in Korea with the 92 AFA Red Devils until April 23, 1953. Wayne Schubert was awarded the United Nations Service Metal, the Korean Service Metal with one bronze star. After his military service, Wayne worked for area farmers, was employed with Winnebago Industries, and later worked different odd jobs. In January 2007, Wayne became a resident at the Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center in Sibley, IA to be near family. He enjoyed playing solitaire, teasing the staff, and visiting with the residence and guests. He was chosen to be the Valentine's Day King. Wayne passed away on June 20, 2015 at Sibley Nursing and Rehab at the age of eighty eight. Wayne is survived by nephews, Douglas, Steven, Curtis, Dennis and James Schubert and two nieces, LaDonna Bosma and Barbara Schubert. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and sister-in-laws, Erwin and Lucy Schubert, Dale and Ruth Schubert, infant brother, Alvin, sister, Elna Schubert, nephew, Terry Schubert and two infant nieces and special friend, Yvonne Johnson.
