Rock Rapids, IA Peter J. DeBoer age 89 of Steen, MN died Thursday, August 20, 2015, at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2015 at Steen Reformed Church in Steen, MN, with Reuben Sinnema officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastside Cemetery rural Steen, MN. Visitation will be Saturday, August 22nd from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids, IA. A complete obituary and registry can be found at www.jurrensfuneralhome.com Peter John DeBoer was born May 4, 1926 in Hull, Iowa to Joe and Engelina "Lena" (Noy) DeBoer. He and his family lived on a farm north of Rock Rapids along the state line. He attended country school through the 8th grade. Peter served in the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. On August 14, 1953, He was united in marriage to Jane Jansma in Ellsworth, MN. The couple lived near the Ellsworth, MN area from 1953 to 1970, by Rock Rapids, IA from 1970 to 2001 and in the city of Steen, MN from 2001 to 2014. Peter was a member of the Steen Reformed Church. He was a member of the Rex Strait Post No. 103, American Legion and also a member of the Rock County Cattlemen's Association where he served as President of the Association for a while. He greatly enjoyed fishing with his family at Lake Mary near Alexandria, Minnesota. Peter is survived by two daughters, Jolene (Richard) VanDenBrink of Rock Rapids, IA and Patricia (Todd) Loger of Rock Rapids, IA; daughter-in-law, Diane DeBoer of Rock Rapids, IA; six grandchildren: Joel (Melanie) VanDenBrink of Rock Valley, IA; Joni (Randy) Ymker of Rock Valley, IA; Benjamin DeBoer(special friend Kristi Oeding) of St. Louis, MO; Adam (Kelly) DeBoer of Sioux Falls, SD; TJ Loger and Trent Loger (fiancé Sadie Knobloch) of Steen, MN; and five great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, William (Harriet) Jansma of Ellsworth, MN; two sisters-in-law, Wilmyna Jansma of Hull, IA and Berniece (Noralf) Barstad of Brandon SD; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jane DeBoer; son, Brent DeBoer; infant brother, John; and brother, James; and sister-in-law Gertrude; two brothers-in-law, Tunis and Bart Jansma.
