Larchwood, Iowa Paul Lee McCarty, age 77 of Larchwood, IA died Wednesday September 23, 2015, at his home in Larchwood, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 26th at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, IA, with Father Bruce Lawler as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Larchwood Cemetery in Larchwood. Visitation will be Friday, September 25th 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. Also there will be a 7:00 PM Vigil service at the church Friday evening. Paul Lee McCarty was born on September 12, 1938 to Tom and Agnes (Kramer) McCarty at home. He was raised on the family farm Southeast of Larchwood. He attended country school and graduated from Lester High School in 1957. On December 27, 1958 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Sehr, at Saint Chrysostom's Catholic Church in Canton, SD. They moved to Larchwood, IA and he started working for Crane & Ordway plumbing and Toledo Scales in Sioux Falls, SD for many years. Eventually in the late 70's, buying a farm west of Larchwood, IA where they farmed for 20 years. While farming, both Paul and Marjorie worked for Grand Labs. Paul had many hobbies that he loved to share with his friends and family including hunting, boating, skiing, camping, fishing and golfing. Paul especially enjoyed racing cars at Huset's Speedway. He participated in many hot rod and tractor pull events. He would also find ways to relax by taking trips to their cabin in Madison, SD. Then in 1995, after retiring from Grand Labs and selling the farm they moved back into Larchwood, where Paul started his own business called McCarty Automation. He invented a machine that put parts together for home windows. He ran the business out of a shop in Larchwood, IA for many years until eventually selling it due to illness in 2014. Paul worked hard but knew how to enjoy life too. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends especially doing things he loved outdoors. He loved the outdoors so much that they eventually bought a home in Mission, TX. There they could enjoy the winter months and get more rounds of golf in. They continued to make Larchwood their summer home until Paul was diagnosed with Lung Cancer which gradually worsened; making travel and doing things he loved almost impossible. After living a much fulfilled life he passed away. Paul is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie McCarty of Larchwood; sons, Steven McCarty of Sioux Falls, SD, and Robert (Page) McCarty of Henderson, NV; daughter-in-law, Jackie (Mrs. Don) McCarty of Larchwood, IA; five grandchildren, Douglas McCarty of Sioux Falls, SD, Sarah (Kyle) Hills of Brandon, SD, Brooklyn McCarty of Larchwood, IA, Dylan McCarty of Larchwood, IA and Tayler McCarty of Henderson, NV; six great-grandchildren, Myles, Macy & Makhi McCarty of Sioux Falls, SD, Logan, Tamryn & Kipton Hills of Brandon, SD; brother, John (Eunice) McCarty of Larchwood, IA; two sisters, Marlene Doherty of Larchwood, IA, Judy (Robert) Reese of Luverne, MN; one sister-in-law, Denise McCarty of Council Bluffs, IA; one aunt, Alice Wagner of Spencer, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Agnes; son, Donald (Don) McCarty; brothers, Michael McCarty, Tommy Jr. and his wife Martha McCarty; niece Barbara McCarty Jones.
