Rock Rapids, Dwayne Stuerman, age 83 of Rock Rapids, Iowa died Thursday, November 5th, 2015 at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 9th, 2015 at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids with Rev. Dan Haggar officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Sunday, November 8th from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with family present from 4:00 to 6:30 at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids. Dwayne Leroy Stuerman was born July 2nd, 1932 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the son of Harry and Hilda (Horn) Stuerman. He was raised on the family farm near Rock Rapids. He received his education at the country school which was located directly across the road from his family farm and he graduated in 1950 from Lester High School. He entered the United States Army in February of 1954 and was honorably discharged in February of 1956. He worked as a helicopter mechanic while in the military. Dwayne returned to farm life after his military service, helping his father and brother with the family farm. On March 16th, 1962 Dwayne married Norma Jean Gransow in the midst of a snow storm. The couple made their home on the family farm where they were blessed with two children, Leroy and Laura. Dwayne was a farmer all his life and loved being in the country. He also enjoyed going fishing. He earned the nickname Whipper" due to his athleticism and ability to Whip the softball past the batter. Dwayne played on several different fast pitch softball teams and didn't give it up until he was 47 years old. His wife and children hold fond memories of being at the games and watching him play. He loved his family very much and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Due to failing health, last April, Dwayne went to live at the Rock Rapids Health Centre where he passed away on Thursday, November 5th, 2015 at the age of 83. He will be greatly missed. Dwayne is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Stuerman of Rock Rapids, Iowa; son, Leroy Stuerman and his wife, Laura of Rock Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Laura Beeck and her husband, Trevis of Denison, Iowa; grandchildren, Scott Stuerman and special friend Kayla Vanden Hoek of Rock Rapids, Eric Stuerman and his wife, Erica of Rock Rapids, Alexa Beeck of Omaha, Nebraska, and Destry Beeck of Wayne, Nebraska; and great-grandchildren, Grady Stuerman and Aubree Benz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Hilda Stuerman; sister, Bernice and husband Bill Barron; brother, Vernon "Bud" Stuerman; sister, Lois and husband Bob Wickland; brother, Robert "Bob" and wife Bettie Stuerman; and brother, Gerald "Jerry" and wife Betty Stuerman.
