George, Iowa Frances Freerks, age 97 of George, IA passed away Friday, November 27, 2015 at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 1st at Hope Reformed Church of George with Rev. Al Honken officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to family for later designation. Frances (Korthals) Freerks was born March 7, 1918 in Boyden, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Bertha (Evink) Korthals. Frances was baptized at the Reformed church, and attended Christian and country school in Boyden. On March 7, 1941 Frances was united in marriage to John Freerks in her family home. John and Frances lived in California for one year before returning to Boyden to farm for 16 years. In 1962 John and Frances moved to George, IA, where they spent the remainder of their lives. Frances was a member of Hope Reformed Church, Priscilla Circle and Women’s Guild. She loved to play cards and board games with her friends and family. She loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory, a son, James Freerks of Story City, IA; a daughter, Linda (Clarence) Gangl of Clearwater, FL; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cornelia Van Westen and Katheryn Krull, both of George, IA; as well as many nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Bertha; husband John Freerks; three brothers, Henry, Garrett and Lawrence Korthals; a sister, Effie Green; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Freerks; and great-grandson, Joshua Darland.
