Little Rock, IADorothy Mae Schubert age 96 of Little Rock, IA died unexpectedly, Tuesday, December 01, 2015 at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday December 5th, 2015 at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, IA with Pastor Dustin Sperlich officiating. Burial will take place prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. at Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock. Visitation will be Friday, December 4th from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock. Dorothy Mae Schubert was born November 23, 1919 in Edgerton, Minnesota to Henry and Clara (Schoolmeester) Vander Kolk. She received her schooling in a country school near Edgerton. As a young lady she worked as a telephone operator in Little Rock. On December 27, 1945 she was united in marriage to William Schubert Jr. in Little Rock. To this union two children were born, Virginia and Pamela. Dorothy and William lived with their family in Alvord for a time before returning to Little Rock where they remained. Dorothy lost her husband of 35 years when he passed away in August of 1980. She worked as a cook at the Little Rock school for over 23 years. Dorothy was active in the Elgin Homemakers and very much enjoyed being active in her church. She also taught piano lessons for many years. Dorothy had a great sense of humor. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her hobbies were crocheting and cooking and baking. She enjoyed giving away her baked goods to friends and family. Dorothy moved to Premier Estates in Rock Rapids in 2013 and due to failing health entered Lyon Manor in October 2015. This past Tuesday, December 1st Dorothy passed away at the age of 96. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughters, Virginia (Ronald) Gerloff of Little Rock, IA and Pamela (Mark) Klaassen of Luverne, MN; 8 grandchildren, Tadd (Carla) Gerloff of Rock Rapids, IA, Charon (Pat) Doyscher of Round Lake, MN, Christopher (Katie) Gerloff of Le Mars, IA, Bradley (Kayla) Gerloff of George, IA, Mindy (John) Saxton of Portland, OR, Kimberly (John) Weidert of Adrian, MN, Barry (Megan) Klaassen of Little Rock, IA, Korissa (Lee) Kramer of Elmore, MN; 21 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Clara Vander Kolk; her husband, William Schubert Jr.; her brother, Morris (Henrietta) Vander Kolk; and sister, Helen (Alfred) Kruse.
