Ardis Korthals

George, IA        Ardis Korthals, age 84 of George, IA died Friday, December 4, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA.   Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 8th, 2015 at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, IA, with Reverend Dale Lint officiating.        Burial will follow at the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA.        Visitation will be Monday, December 7th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home in George, IA.        In lieu of flowers family prefers memorials be directed to: Lakeshore Center, at 1864 IA 86 Milford, IA to be used for Presbyterian Church Camp scholarships. Ardis Pearl Korthals was born June 8, 1931 in George, IA to Arthur and Pearl (Roth) Eberline. She was raised and received her education in George. Ardis continued her education at Westmar College in LeMars earning her teaching certificate. She taught country school for several years before her marriage. On August 4, 1954 Ardis was united in marriage to Harold Korthals at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, IA. The couple made their home on Ardis’ family farm near George which is a century farm. They lived there for many years before moving into George. Ardis was a lifetime member of Ebenezer Presbyterian church and was active in Circle, Presbyterian Women and 4-H. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed watching games with her family. She also enjoyed golf, bowling, and following all George High School sports. Ardis and Harold took their family on a vacation every year. They visited many places over the years from camping in the Rockies to Washington, DC. The family will hold many fond memories of those trips. If Ardis had a ministry it would have been a greeting card ministry. She loved to remember family and friends with greeting cards. On holidays, birthdays, Christmas and other special occasions she could be counted on to put a card in the mail. Even strangers would receive a card if Ardis heard they did something notable or needed a cheer. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Harold Korthals; daughters, Judy (Daryl) Arzdorf of Mankato, MN and Nancy Frantz of Sioux Falls, SD; son, David (Twyla) Korthals of George, IA; and daughter, Ruth (Tim) Kruger of George, IA; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; in-laws, John (Mary) Korthals, Alfred Korthals, Ed (Pearl) Korthals, Velva Korthals, Albert (Johanna) Korthals and Floy Korthals; many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Ardis was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Pearl Eberline; son-in-law, Bruce Frantz; sister, Marian and Martin Kruse; in-laws, Henrietta and Alvin Krull, Jeanette and Raymond Lamfers, Marian Korthals, Leona and James Geerdes, Ronald Korthals, and Edith and Emery Van Tilburg.
