Ashton, IA Carol Swenson, age 72 of Ashton, IA died suddenly on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at her home in Ashton, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 10th at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton, with Father Siby Punnoose as celebrant. Inurnment will be 12 noon on Friday, December 11th at Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 9th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton, IA. Also there will be a 6:00 p.m. Vigil service Wednesday evening at the church. The Jurrens Funeral Home of Ashton is handling arrangements. Carol Ann Swenson was born September 22, 1943 in Eldora, Iowa, the daughter of Edward “Guy” and Dorothy Maude (Williams) Clingerman. She attended Jackson #5 school and graduated from Eldora High School in 1961. She continued her education at Minnesota Business Institute in the Minneapolis. She graduated in 1963 receiving her Lab Technician and X-ray Tech certifications. She was united in marriage to David A. Swenson on January 9, 1971 in Slayton, MN. Two children were blessed to this union. Carol and David divorced in 1985. Carol moved to Rock Valley, IA in October of 1987 where she worked at Hagg Memorial Hospital as a Lab Technician and later worked at Sioux Falls, SD at Avera Medical X-ray. In June of 2001 Carol moved to Ashton, IA and began working at The Village in Sheldon, IA, retiring in May 2005. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton, IA, active with the Catholic Daughters of America. As a young woman she enjoyed attending dances. She enjoyed playing cards, such as Gin, 10 point pitch and was a big fan of Elvis. She also was an avid sports fan. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her two children, Kris Ann Swenson of Sioux Falls, SD and Monte David Swenson and special friend Bobbi Johnson of Slayton, MN; six grandchildren, Cole, Macoy, A.J., Kalli, Aidan and Addison; a sister, Julia (husband, Arvin) Klemme of Hubbard, IA; a niece, Jean Baker of Chicago, IL; and special friend, Elmer Van Beast of Sibley, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Dorothy Clingerman.
