     Bruce Kammarmeyer, age 83 of Rock Rapids, IA died Monday, January 25, 2016, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.             Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 28th at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Marcia Sangel officiating.        Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA.        Visitation will be Wednesday, January 27th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with family present at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.      Bruce was born September 27, 1932 in Rockford, Ill to Charles Kammarmeyer and Helen (Cooper) Kammarmeyer. He attended Fort Dodge High School and graduated in 1950.  He played football, earning a scholarship to Morningside College where he played for legendary coach George Allen.  In 1951 he joined the Navy where he attained the rank of Sergeant working in aviation ordinance.  He was stationed in Korea and Japan during the Korean War.  While serving in the Navy he acquired a taste for Spam which he joyfully shared with his family over breakfast.  He was honorably discharged in 1955. He returned to finish his degree at Morningside and then transferred to the University of South Dakota where he graduated in 1958 with a business degree.  He followed in his father’s footsteps and went to work for John Deere Inc. in 1958.  He served as territory manager in Sydney, NE, Audubon, IA and Sheldon, IA.  In 1972 he bought into the John Deere business with 3 other partners and moved his family to Rock Rapids.  He ran a successful business for about 20 years.  During that time he made sure his children and friends ran nothing but Green!        While home from college, he was united in marriage to Freda Ann Wood on December 28, 1955 at the United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge.  They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.  Bruce believed in serving his community.  He was a board member of the Lyon County Conservation Foundation since its inception in 1994, a member of the Forster Trust Commission, and a former Boy Scout Leader.  Bruce also served with Kiwanis and was a member of the Sunshine Boys.  He was a constituent of the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids since 1972 serving in various capacities.         He is survived by his loving wife Freda, sons Greg (Leone) of Brea, CA, Paul (Laura) of Manchester, IA, daughters Helen (Phil) Nichols of Rapid City, SD and Karen (Steve) Hoffrogge of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  Grandchildren Jill, Jamie, Megan, Hannah, and Jake and great –grandchildren Sy, Fynn, Ivy and Genevieve will miss him.  His brother Gordon of Des Moines, IA also survives.  He was preceded in death by his parents.        Bruce was preceded in death by his parents.
