Jennie (Bierma) Bents was born on March 11, 1918, near Adrian, MN. She was the daughter of John and Sadie (Hoogland) Bierma. She grew up on her family’s farm, and attended the Ransom Township Country School. She was united in marriage to Henry C. Bents on September 24, 1941, in Slayton, MN. They settled west of Sibley and began farming together. They raised three children: Henry, Carol and Lori. Jennie’s love for her Lord and family was closest to her heart. She was self-sufficient as so many farm women in her generation were. She sowed, harvested and canned vegetables, raised chickens and milked cows; all from which her family enjoyed many wonderful and healthy meals. Jennie was a gifted seamstress and sewed clothes for her family as well as herself. She would then utilize the remaining scraps of fabric to sew quilts. She loved spending time planting and caring for the many flowers in her yard. Her loving smile melted the hearts of all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. Surviving Jennie are her daughters, Carol (Dennis) Quaal of Eagle Lake, MN and Lori Bents of West Des Moines, IA; daughter-in-law, Twilla Bents of Sibley, IA; four grandchildren, four step grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and eleven step great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry C. Bents; son, Henry A. Bents; three brothers and three sisters.
