Helen Buysman

Ashton, IA        Helen Buysman, age 93 of Sheldon, IA died Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, IA.      Memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Sheldon United Methodist Church in Sheldon, IA, with Reverend Dale Lint and Reverend Kevin Gingerich officiating.        Burial will take place prior to the service and family and friends will meet at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Ashton at 9:00 a.m. and travel in procession to the Gilman Township Cemetery in Ashton.        Visitation will be Sunday, March 20th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Ashton, IA.        Helen Buysman was born July 21, 1922 near Ashton, IA to Henry and Hattie (Hector) Lamfers. She was raised and received her education in Ashton, IA.  On May 29th, 1946 she was united in marriage to Harold Buysman at the First Presbyterian Church in Ashton, IA.  Following their marriage the couple lived in Sibley.  Later they began farming near Ocheyedan and moved to the May City area and finally settled near Ashton.  In 1979, Harold and Helen moved to their home in Ashton after Harold retired from farming.  She enjoyed reading, crosswords, crocheting and going to coffee and lunch with friends.  But mostly she loved spending time with her family.  She always remembered grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews with cards for special occasions.  Helen worked at Tony’s Bakery and Brower Bakery in Sheldon and for many years at NCC in Sheldon.  She will be greatly missed.         Surviving are her three daughters, Karen (Alan) Behrens of Council Bluffs, IA, Connie (Tom) Marcotte of LeMars, IA and Pam Buysman of Sheldon, IA; Helen is also survived by her six grandchildren, Michael (Carrie) Behrens, Scott (Hannah) Behrens, Heidi Behrens (Jarek Shearer), Chad Marcotte (special friend Rachel Prickett), Brandon (Anna) Marcotte, Jared Marcotte; and her seven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother, Fred (Evelyn) Lamfers of Sioux Center, IA; brother-in-law, Norman (Tina) Buysman of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law, Joyce (Garret) Meyer of Worthington, MN; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Runia of Sibley, IA; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.        She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Buysman; brother, Ben and wife Myrtle Lamfers; sisters, Gladys and her husband Tom Dykstra; JoAnn and her husband Art Riemersma; sister-in-law, Helen and her husband George Van Engen; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Runia.
