Gertrude Van Ommen

  Alvord, IA        Gertrude Van Ommen, age 92 of Alvord, IA passed away Friday, April 1, 2016 at Lyon Specialty Care Nursing Home in Rock Rapids, IA.   Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 6th at the Forster Community Building in Rock Rapids, IA. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.   Visitation will be Wednesday, April 6th from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the Forster Community Building in Rock Rapids.   Gertrude Van Ommen was born July 4, 1923 at her family farm, near Inwood, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anna (Kroon) Van Ommen. She grew up near Inwood and attended country school. She dedicated most of her life to caring for her mother. She also worked part time at the Lyon County Jail and also other individuals as a housekeeper.   She is survived by nephew, Kenneth (Erin) Van Ommen of Independence, KS, and their children, John (Kristen) Van Ommen and their daughter, Klhoe of Springfield, MO, Rachel (Derek) Skinner of Pittsburg, KS, Daniel Van Ommen of Tulsa, OK, Rebecca (Devin) Alumbaugh of Kansas City, MO, David Van Ommen of Manhattan, KS; nephew, Henry (Melanie) Van Ommen, and their children, Kendall Van Ommen and Carma Van Ommen, all of Alvord, IA; and other extended family.   She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Van Ommen; brother, John Van Ommen; and sister-in-law, Lily Van Ommen.
