Sibley, IA Marlys Buysman, age 83 of Sibley, IA died Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the Country View Manor in Sibley, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the First Reformed Church in Sibley, with Reverend Luke Schouten and Reverend Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow at the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 12th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley. Marlys Helen Buysman, the daughter of John and Evelyn (Ver Steeg) Wesselink, was born on September 19, 1932. She was raised in the Sibley area where she attended country school. She worked in Sibley at Ben Franklin and at a dress shop. On October 22, 1952, Marlys was united in marriage to Donald Buysman in Sibley, Iowa. They farmed together on a farm north of Sibley until 2002 when they retired and turned the farm over to their grandson, Michael. In 2006, they moved to their home in Sibley. Marlys was a member of First Reformed Church in Sibley, where she taught Sunday school and catechism and was always willing to help out. Marlys enjoyed playing cards and games with family and friends, crocheting and embroidery and word search puzzles. She always had a large garden and sweet corn patch and for many years they raised chickens and sold eggs. She loved to cook and bake and her chocolate chip cookies were the best and the coffee pot was always on. She and Donald were proud of their grandchildren and enjoyed attending their events. Her great-granddaughter, Addison Hulstein, was a great joy and always brought a big smile to her face. In January of 2011, Marlys entered Country View Manor in Sibley. Marlys is survived by a daughter, Debra Hulstein and her husband Loren of Sheldon, IA; two grandchildren, Michael Hulstein and his wife, Chelsea and their daughter, Addison of Sheldon, IA and Rachel Van Zanten and her husband, Dalton of Rock Valley, IA; one sister, Shirley Hindt of Sibley, IA; brothers-in-law: Hermie Geerdes and his wife, Carolyn of Jackson, MN and Reinerd Bosma of Round Lake, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald on August 13, 2009; and by three sisters: Dorothy Behrens Agerbeck, JoAnn Geerdes and Betty Bosma. In lieu of flower memorials are preferred.
