She was born 3 months early and weighted only 3lb. The doctor, afraid she wouldn’t make it, named her Mary, after her mother and June for the month She was kept alive by being fed with an eye dropper and kept warm in the bun warmer with hot water bottles. She would turn blue, even on the hottest July day, if the hot water bottles were removed. Due to the loving efforts of her mother, she lived on to have a full life.        She grew up in Lester, IA and attended school there. She loved to go to dances and always said she couldn’t get in trouble without her parents knowing what she had done. She later found out it was the whole town, watching out for her. She also helped her mother, the town nurse, and was present for many accidents and illnesses. After graduation from Lester High School in 1954, she followed her mother into nursing at Presentation School of Nursing. Her mother graduated in 1931. She graduated in 1957. Later her daughter, Sharon would be the 3rd generation Presentation graduate, June was very proud of this.        Nursing school was an adventure and she was able to train in all areas of nursing, including surgery. She and some of her classmates were called the Iowa suitcase girls, as they went home as often as possible. She continued over the years to meet with her classmates and celebrate class reunions. Their 50th class reunion was in Sioux Falls in 2007. Sharon was able to take her to Laughlin, NV in October 2013, for her last reunion. She enjoyed telling stories and spending time with these dear friends. She continued to meet with her classmates every month, health depending, until her death.        June worked as a nurse in Rapid City and Sioux Falls, SD. She spent the last 20 years of her career as a night nurse on the Rehab Unit at Avera McKennan Hospital. She helped train many new nurses in her career and had the canny knack of knowing when a patient needed to be moved out. She gained friends here as well, meeting with these nurses as often as possible as well.        In 2002, June retired from nursing and returned home to Lester. She lived and died in her grandmother’s house, She still had homestead rights. She knew many stories about the town, and loved to share these with anyone who would listen.        She married Roger Stubbe in 1957, in Rock Rapids, IA. From this union were 3 children. Sharon, Russell and Craig. They lost 2 babies prior to Sharon’s birth.        She is survived by her children, Sharon (Gene) Hoon, Garretson, SD, Russell Stubbe, Lester, IA and Craig (Shannon) Stubbe, Sioux Falls, 5 grandchildren, Nicholas, Brandon and Aaron Hoon, Cameron and Gabriella Stubbe, a sister, Betty Houston of Seattle, WA, a sister-in-law, Margaret Marnette of Aberdeen, SD, many family and friends.        She was preceded in death by her father, George Marnette, her mother Mary Marnette, her brother, Jerry Marnette, and 2 infant children.
