March 3, 1929 — May 22, 2016

           Joyce Borman, age 87 of Rock Rapids, IA died Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.        Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 27th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Dan Kordahl officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.        Visitation will be Friday, May 27th from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at Immanuel Lutheran Church.        In lieu of flowers family wish memorials to be directed to Lyon County Hospice.      Joyce L. Borman was born March 3, 1929 in Murray County, Minnesota, the daughter of Martin E. and Anna (Volk) Karl. She was raised on family farm and attended county school. She was united in marriage to Loren Borman on September 1, 1946 in Slayton, MN. Together they farmed northwest of Rock Rapids, IA and moved to a home in Rock Rapids in 1963. She worked at Central Lyon Community School as a cook for many years.        Joyce enjoyed sewing, crocheting, puzzles, watching birds, house cats, and trips to Slayton to visit her twin sister. She will be remembered as a strong woman who held the family together with her kind and loving but firm approach.        She is survived by four children, Penny (Vern) Lorenzen, Sharon Steenblock, Gary (Judy) Borman and Jerry Borman, all of Rock Rapids, IA; daughter-in-law, Vicki Borman of Rock Rapids, IA; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; five siblings, Virgil (LaVina) Karl of St. Paul, MN, Joy Swan of Hadley, MN, Delbert (Bette) Karl of Alexandria, MN, Calvin (Renae Rogers) Karl of Scandia, MN and Lois (LeRoy) Bruns of Lake Crystal, MN; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.        She was preceded in death by parents, Martin and Anna Karl; husband, Loren Borman; son, Tom Borman; sons-in-law, John Harkema and Jim Steenblock and brother-in-law, Arvid Swan.
