Helena M Sprock

Helena Sprock, age 97 of Rock Rapids, IA died Thursday June 2, 2016 at Foundation Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD.        Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Dan Haggar officiating        Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.        Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to time of service at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.      Helena Margaret Sprock was born November 28, 1918 in George, IA to John and Edith (Klaassen) Klaassen.  She was raised east of George on a farm and attended country school.  As she grew up, she helped with child care and various duties for neighbors and family.  On February 10th, 1942 she was united in marriage to Richard Sprock at the Hope Reformed Church parsonage in George.  The couple lived on the Sprock family farm which is a century farm.  Helena worked at Merrill Pioneer Hospital for 11 years.  Because of Richard’s failing health they moved back to Rock Rapids to be closer to family.  On September 8, 1991 Richard passed away.  Helena stayed living in her home until December 29th, 2015.  She was a caregiver for Richard for several years.  She enjoyed collecting cups and saucers, spoons and enjoyed playing Bingo.  She loved her family very much, especially being able to spend time with her grandkids.  She was especially proud of them.  Sunday family gatherings were special to her.  She was a wonderful baker and everyone enjoyed her homemade buns.             She is survived by son, Dennis (Sandy) Sprock of Rock Rapids; daughter, Sandy Sprock of Sioux Falls, SD; son, Richard “Dick” (Barb) Sprock of Rock Rapids; daughter, Kathy (Fred) Christians of Rock Rapids, son, Curtis “Brillo” (Pat) Sprock of Rock Rapids; and son-in-law, Lynn Schlumbohm of Rock Rapids; seventeen grandchildren, Jason (Lynn) Sprock, Molly (Scott) Quinn, Dean Sprock, Lee Schlumbohm, Lance (Jill) Schlumbohm, Paul Sprock, Jacalyn (John) Gacke, Jeremy (Krista) Sprock, Jessica (Pat) Joyce, Jamie (Rob) Krukow, Amy (Thibault) Dagbovie, Reggie Christians, Eric Christians, Sara (Scott) Kuhnert, Erin Fogle, Tim (Michelle) Sprock and Tanner Sprock; twenty-seven great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; and other extended family members.            Helena was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 39 years, Richard Sprock; daughter, Judy Schlumbohm; four sisters; and six brothers.
