NOTICE: George, IA George Schipper, age 94 of George, IA died Sunday, June 12, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society Care Center in George, IA. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 18th at Hope Reformed Church near George, IA, with Rev. Al Honken officiating. Visitation will be Friday, June 17th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of George. The Schipper family and those able to attend will gather at Jurrens Funeral Home Saturday morning and process to Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. for the graveside services. George Herman Schipper was born April 7, 1922 at State Line Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, near Rock Rapids, Iowa, the son of Rev. Harm and Lucy (Dirks) Schipper. He was raised in the Reading, MN, Rushmore, MN and Allendorf, IA areas, attending county school in Allendorf, IA. From 1942 thru 1945, he served with the 96th Infantry Division, in the Pacific Theater of Operation, including the Philippines Island, Leyete & Okaninawa Islands. He was awarded a Purple Heart Medal for injuries received and was honorably discharged from the US Army in November 1945. George was married on May 4, 1948 to Anna Marie Frick. Six children were blessed to this union. George and his family lived in Ocheyedan, IA from 1948 until they moved to George, IA in 1967. George & Anna lived in Brighton, CO for 7 months until Anna’s passing in May 2009. From May 2009 until June 2010, George lived in an assisted living facility in Sergeant Bluff, IA. He then became a resident of Good Samaritan Center in George, IA. While living in Ocheyedan, IA George was an electrician and he was a Boys Scout Cub Master. While living in George, IA, George was an electrician for Siebring Electric and worked at Sudengas as Maintenance Electrician. George was also a member of the Fire Dept and served as Fire Chief for both Ocheyedan and George, IA George was a member of Hope Reformed Church in George, IA active as Sunday School Supt and a member of the Men’s Double Quartet. George was a proud member of the American Legion for 70 years. This past Memorial Day members of the American Legion provided him with special VIP treatment and he was honored to receive his 70 year certificate and pin, which fulfilled his dream. He enjoyed music, repairing and tinkering with tools, puzzles and playing pranks. ‘George from George’ was a long-standing participant in area parades. He enjoyed creating cleaver ideas for the parades and providing music. Left to cherish his memory are five children, Mary (Larry) Louscher, of Brighton, CO, Mark (Joni) Schipper of Moville, IA, Marcia Schipper, of Brighton, CO, Merlyn (Gloria) Schipper of Vacaville, CA and Marlene (Craig) Schmidt of Sergeant Bluff, IA; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Anna on May 16, 2009; parents Rev Harm & Lucy Schipper, his son, Marvin Schipper ; sisters Ann Reiter and Pearl Schipper and brother Cal Schipper.
