Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2016 at the First Reformed Church in Sibley, IA, with Reverend Luke Schouten officiating. Burial will follow the lunch at the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA. Visitation will be Thursday, June 23rd from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the First Reformed Church in Sibley. Lois Thelma Vande Berg was born on May 6, 1928 in Hospers, IA, the daughter of Henry and Henrietta (Boone) Brink. She grew up in Hospers and graduated from Hospers High School in 1947. On March 15, 1948, Lois was united in marriage to Harold Vande Berg. To this union four children were born: Connie, Susette, Randy and Kimberly. They lived various places throughout their married life such as: Hospers, IA, Rock Valley, IA and Sioux Falls, SD in their early years and most of the time in Rock Rapids, IA, East Lake Okoboji, that all the family could enjoy, Larchwood, IA, on Big Spirit in Spirit Lake, IA and Sibley, IA. They wintered in Arizona and Texas for many years. Throughout Lois’ life she worked at Kim’s Korn Krib, Lane’s Café in Rock Rapids, as a cook at West Lyon High School; and during their retirement years sold Tarko Dolls as they traveled around the country. They sold the dolls at county and state fairs. Lois was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sibley. She enjoyed baking and the Mission work they did in Mexico. The other “occupation” for mom and dad were that they taught Ballroom Dancing for many years to many couples in the Iowa area. They left quite a legacy and we all know that they are dancing in heaven probably to “Sentimental Journey”. After sixty-four years of marriage her husband Harold passed away on June 14, 2012. Lois continued to enjoy her time in Texas until she developed cancer and could no longer return. She put up a good fight after she was diagnosed with bladder cancer and continued to enjoy her family and friends up until a few weeks before she became too weak to be alone. Her dying wish for us all was to “Love the Lord” and she will be greatly missed by her family, her Texas “family” and her many friends in the Iowa area. Lois is survived by her four children: Connie (Raymond) Eberts of Sioux Falls, SD, Susette (Gordon) Faber of Rock Rapids, IA, Randy (Kelli) Vande Berg of Sibley, IA, Kimberly (Robert) McCoy of Sioux Falls, SD and foster daughter, Anita (Russell) Hazel of Husdson, SD; nine grandchildren, three foster grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four foster great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Tootie” Vande Berg of Prescott, AZ; and many nieces nephews and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Henrietta Brink; husband, Harold Vande Berg; sister, Dorothy Vander Pol and brother, Clifford Brink.
