  Steen, MN        Kevin Martens, age 56 of Steen, MN died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at his residence near Steen, MN.        Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 11th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN, with burial following at Flowerfield Cemetery near Hills, MN.        Visitation will be Sunday, July 10th with family present from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills. Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills is in charge of services.        Kevin Dwayne Martens was born April 29, 1960 in Luverne, Minnesota, the son of James J. and Gertie (Vanden Brink) Martens. He was raised on a family farm located on the Iowa/ Minnesota boarder, near Steen. He attended Central Lyon Elementary in Rock Rapids, IA and graduated from Hills-Beaver Creek High School in 1978.        After his education Kevin continued farming with his father. On August 27, 1983 he was united in marriage to Coleen Bush at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN. Two children were blessed to this union, Jessica and Jason. They lived and farmed near Steen, MN. He later worked at Hills Elevator for several years and Ferrell Gas in Luverne, MN. He then worked for Sanford Home Medical in Sioux Falls and most recently worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Magnolia, MN.        He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN. He enjoyed playing billiards, golfing and was an avid sports fan. He loved his dog, Callie, being a father and especially a grandfather, to Emry Grace Boelman.        He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Coleen Martens of Steen, MN; two children, Jessica (Scott) Boelman of Luverne, MN and Jason (Jessica) Martens of Sioux Falls, SD; granddaughter, Emry Grace Boelman; two sisters, Carole (Roger) Bosch of Steen, MN and Marlys "Mo" (Steve "Ben") Dirks of Luverne, MN; brother, Merle Martens of Valley Springs, SD; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other extended family.        He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Gertie Martens; brother-in-law, Mike Hanson; and parents-in-law, Berdell and Ione Bush.
