Rock Rapids, IA Wilma Hoogeveen, age 88 of Rock Rapids, IA died Sunday, July 31, 2016 at her residence in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Bethel Reformed Church in Lester, IA. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Lester, IA. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 3rd from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, IA. Wilma Hoogeveen was born March 30, 1928, the daughter of Dietrich and Julia (Koch) Knobloch at the family farm between Lester and Alvord, IA. Wilma attended country school at Cleveland number 4, graduating after 8th grade. In 1946, she started working for the Mosers and also for the Feuchts. In 1947, she started working at Corner Restaurant in Rock Rapids. She was united in marriage to Marvin Hoogeveen on January 15, 1948 at the church parsonage. They made their home on a farm between Lester and Larchwood. In 1968, Wilma became an active member of Bethel Reformed Church in Lester. Wilma received her GED from NITC in Sheldon in 1979. In 1988, she moved into Rock Rapids where she currently lived. Wilma was an excellent seamstress and made many of her children’s clothes and she also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She always tended to her large garden and did a lot of canning and baking. Her family always enjoyed when she made cinnamon rolls, bread pudding and her special mashed potatoes. She loved playing pinochle, doing dot to dot puzzles to keep her “mind sharp.” For fifty years she enjoyed children and loved to teach vacation bible school and Sunday school. She was very proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and attended many of their activities. Wilma often would bring food to her family and neighbors and enjoyed visiting with them. She also enjoyed the company of her pets over the years. This past Sunday morning, July 31, 2016, Wilma died at her home in Rock Rapids at the age of 88. She is survived by her children, Dale Hoogeveen of Minneapolis, MN; Connie TenClay and her husband, Lowell of Winnebago, NE and Cathy Graves of Lester, IA; along with three grandchildren, Rev. Timothy (J.J.)TenClay of Palermo, Sicliy; Kristi TenClay of Cameroon, Africa and Maria Graves of Sioux Falls, SD and great grandchildren, Sophia and Petra; three siblings, Wilbert Knobloch of Rock Rapids, IA; Violet (Ray) Luthi of Pittsburg, KS and Adolph (Jean) Knobloch of Algona, IA; two sisters-in-law; Phylis Knobloch of Peoria, IL and Vera Knoboch of Lester, IA; along with many nieces and nephews and other extended family. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Dietrich and Julia Knoboch; her husband, Marvin; six sisters; Julia, Emma, Elizabeth, Lydia, Emelie and Paulina; and five brothers, Ernst, Albert, Dietrich, Benjamin and Earl.
