Robert Dean Huisenga

Sibley, IA        Robert Huisenga, age 89 of Sibley, IA died Monday, September 5, 2016, at Country View Manor in Sibley.        Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 9th at United Church of Christ Congregational in Sibley with Reverend Larry Laskie officiating. Private family burial will take place prior to the service at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.        Visitation will be Thursday, September 8th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.      Robert Dean Huisenga was born May 3, 1927 in Sibley, IA to Ollie and Millie (Knott) Huisenga.  He graduated from Sibley High School in 1945.  Bob was a veteran of the armed services, serving in Austria in the post WWII years, and was a member of the VFW in Sibley.  On September 4, 1948 Bob united in marriage to Leona (Bustad) at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.  The couple purchased their first home on 4th Avenue in Sibley and lived there from 1952 until 2005, at which time they moved to Poplar Drive.  Bob worked at Horton Chevrolet for over 50 years and spent the last years of his working career as a salesman for Jeddeloh Ford in Sibley. He was a life-long member of the United Church of Christ, Congregational in Sibley, and served his community as a city councilman and on the Board of Directors of Osceola Community Hospital. He and his wife, Leona, enjoyed golfing, and taught all of their children the love of the game. His one complaint was that Lona would never give him a gimme putt. Leona passed away on October 1, 2008.         He is survived by his son, Kirk (Becki) Huisenga of Spirit Lake, IA; daughter, Vickie Krogman of Ankeny, IA; son, Mark (Terry) Huisenga of Iowa City, IA; daughters, Melinda Huisenga of Morton, IL, Amy (Jim) Trewin of Ramsey, MN, and Susan (Steve) Potter of Portland, OR; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Howard Huisenga of Sioux City, IA, Roger (Marilyn) Huisenga of Sibley, IA, and Jack (Mary) Huisenga of Sioux City, IA; special friend, Marlys Brink; and numerous extended family members.           Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leona; daughter, Lisa Jean; granddaughter, Alison Jo; daughter-in-law, Candace Huisenga; and sister, Norma Hoffman.     Family prefers that memorials be directed to:  United Church of Christ Congregational, Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley or Alzheimer's Association
