June A Kroon

Rock Rapids, IA   June Kroon, age 89, of Rock Rapids, IA passed away Saturday, Sept. 17th, 2016 at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids.   Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 21st at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Dan Kordahl officiating.   Private family burial will be held at Eastside Cemetery near Steen, MN.   Visitation will be Tuesday, September 20th from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.   June A. Kroon was born October 16, 1926 in Sheldon, Iowa, the daughter of William B. and Anna (De Groot) Vander Kooi. As a young girl she lived on a family farm during the Depression years and attended a country school three miles south of Doon, IA. In 6th grade her family moved closer to Rock Valley, IA, and she attended Rock Valley School. In 9th grade her family had a farm sale and moved to California for one year. They returned to northwest Iowa living in Hull, IA to help care for her grandfather. Because there was no work to be found for her father they moved to Ontario, New York where she continued her education and worked in a factory and a day care center. Two years later she returned to Hull, IA to provide care for her grandfather and finished her senior year. During this time June met her future husband, Herman Kroon. They were united in marriage on May 25, 1945 and moved to the Kroon family farm where they lived for 55 years raising five children. They sold grade A milk and crop farmed. On July 9, 2000 June’s husband, Herman died peacefully after 55 years of marriage.   June continued to live on the family farm where she enjoyed reading, cooking, and visiting with all her family and friends. Her love for Christ was evident to all who knew her. In August she fell and fractured her pelvis and 2 vertebras. Shortly after this she was hospitalized for the fall and then developed problems with congestive heart failure. In September of 2016 June entered Lyon Specialty Care for strengthening and remained there until this past Saturday, September 17, 2016, where she died at the age of 89.   She is survived by her five children, John (Emilene) Kroon of Steen, MN, Faith (Erwin) De Boer of Hills, MN, Bill (Lila) Kroon, Harlan (Krista) Kroon, and Dan (Tammy) Kroon, all of Rock Rapids, IA; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; a sister-in-law, Christine Kroon of Rock Rapids, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Kroon; a brother, Willis Vander Kooi; and a sister, Dorothy Coffman.
