Hills, MN Edyth Mae Briggs, age 87 of Hills, MN died Monday, September 26, 2016 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2016 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN with Rev. Maggie Berndt-Dreyer officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills, MN. Edyth Mae Briggs was born January 22, 1929, on the family farm near Lester, IA, to Gustav and Matilda (Mahler) Winter. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, and confirmed on April 2nd 1944. Edyth graduated from country school District 51, after eighth grade and received her diploma in 1943. She graduated from Luverne High School on June 5, 1947. Edyth first worked at Nelson Department Store in Luverne. She then took the position of office manager at the Telephone Company in Hills, until her retirement 30 years later. She married Donald Boysen on her birthday in 1948; he passed away in October of 1979. She was then married to Keith Brooks in 1980, until his death in 1988. In November of 1992, she was married to Donald Briggs. Donald passed away on June 1, 2010. Edyth and Donald Briggs enjoyed traveling and shared many nice trips during their time together. She was Knighted in The Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem (SMOTJ). Edyth enjoyed being very active in her church. She was a member of the quilting ladies and served in other areas as well. Edyth is survived by her nieces, Debbie (Wally) Piepho of Lincoln, NE, Barb (Bob) Daiker of Odebolt, IA, Patty (Pat) Teager of Jackson, NE, and Becky (Bill) Butkus of Sidney, NE; 10 greatnieces and nephews and their families – 9 great-great nieces and nephews; other extended family members; and Donald Briggs’ daughter, Deb Wright and family. She is also survived by her many friends and neighbors, as well as, her “family” at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Matilda Winter; husbands Don Boysen, Keith Brooks and Donald Briggs; and brother and sister-in-law, Wilfred and Marjorie Winter.
