Carol Janice Scheerhorn

Hills, MN        Carol Scheerhorn, age 76 of Hills, MN died Friday, September 30, 2016 at Sanford Luverne Hospital in Luverne, MN.        Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN with Pastor Maggie Berndt-Dreyer officiating.        Burial will follow in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Hills, MN.        Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills.        Carol Janice Scheerhorn was born on May 11, 1940 in Pipestone, MN, the daughter of Elliot and Grace Moore. She grew up in Pipestone and attended school there. On October 12, 1957, she was united in marriage to Eugene Scheerhorn at the United Methodist Church in Pipestone, MN. To this union five children were born: Julie, Randy, Lori, Doug and Patti. Carol and Gene moved to Hills, MN and have lived there for the last forty years. During that time, they owned and operated Blue Chip Book Binding. One of Carol’s favorite pastimes was camping and fishing with her husband, Gene, along with their annual family summer weekend camping trips. She also enjoyed reading, spoiling her cats and collecting dolls and antiques. Carol loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carol was a very caring and loving spirit and we were blessed to have her in our life. She will be greatly missed.        Carol is survived by her husband of 59 years, Eugene Scheerhorn of Hills, MN; five children: Julie (Russ) Berkland of Estherville, IA, Randy (Judy) Scheerhorn of St. Cloud, MN, Lori (Jeff) Enger of Jasper, MN, Doug (Sheri) Scheerhorn of Beaver Creek, MN and Patti (Steve) Vugteveen of Valley Springs, SD; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.        She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers and four sisters; and grandson, Christopher Nath.
