Sibley, IA        Dean L. Janssen, age 83 of Sibley, IA died on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the Country View Manor in Sibley, IA.        Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 12th at Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley, IA, with Reverend Barbara Kopperud officiating.                                                                                                                                                                                Private family burial will be prior to service at the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, IA, with military honors by George E. Mudge American Legion Post 324 and William F. Allard VFW Post 7373.        Visitation will be Friday, November 11th from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.        Dean Lee Janssen was born December 22, 1932 on the family farm near Sibley, Iowa, the son of Harry and Tena (Bruns) Janssen. He was raised on a farm and attended country school. Dean entered the U.S. Army on April 7, 1953 and was honorably discharged on April 6, 1955. He returned to the family farm and was united in marriage in 1956 to Jane Wallrich at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton, IA.        Together they farmed and raised seven children. Dean enjoyed collecting small pliers, wood working with Jane and flea markets and garage sales. Dean farmed proudly until he retired in 1994. Following that Dean and Jane enjoyed several years wintering in Texas. After celebrating their 50 Wedding Anniversary at their Texas home with family and friends they returned home and on November 25, 2006 Dean’s wife, Jane died at the age of 70. Dean remained living in their rural home until entering Country View Manor in January of 2016, where he remained living until this past Wednesday, November 9, 2016, when he died at the age of 83.        He is survived by his seven children, Debbie (Roger) Riebeling of Sibley, IA and their children, Kim (Jeff) Folkmann and Kevin (Lindsey) Riebeling, son, Jim (Laura) Janssen of Sibley, IA, and their daughter Kristen (Andrew) Dubbelde, son, Randy (Shelly) Janssen of Sibley, IA, and their daughter, Tabitha Janssen, son Pete (Diane) Janssen of Sibley, IA, and their son, Luke (Kaleigh) Janssen, son, Larry (Linda) Janssen of Paullina, IA, and Larry's daughters, Hope and Larissa, daughter, Sharon (Curt) Ackerman of Crawford, NE, and their children, Jacob (Abbey) Schutte, Maggie (Jason) Gerdes, Ema Ackerman and Will Ackerman, son, Rex (Kelly) Janssen of Sibley, IA and their children, Brandon and Mitchell (Leah) Janssen; thirteen great-grandchildren, Ava Heideman, Collin and Leah Folkmann, Brayden and Camryn Janssen, Jaelyn, Levi and Jase Janssen, Wyatt and Jenna Schutte, Olivia and Eva Gerdes and McKenna.        He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Janssen; parents, Harry and Tena Janssen, brothers; sisters; and grandson, Terry Janssen.
