Matlock, Iowa Eldon Techen, age 82 of rural Matlock, IA died Monday, November 14, 2016 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon, IA. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 18th at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Hull, IA with Rev. Aaron Deutsch, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery at Hull. Visitation will be Thursday November 17th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Eldon Albert Techen was born November 8, 1934, in Edna, IA the son of Arlie and Ella (Breuer) Techen. Eldon grew up and attended country school in the Doon, IA area. He helped on the family farm as a young man. On April 3, 1957, Eldon was inducted into the United States Army. He served his country until he was honorably discharged on October 7, 1957. Eldon returned home and resumed working on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Shirley Dagel on June 6, 1956, at the Ashton Presbyterian Church. The newly wedded couple made their home on a small acreage and Eldon worked for a farmer by Matlock. In 1964, they moved to the current farm place and started milking, which he continued into his 70’s. His cows were his pride and joy. He started with 15 cows and it grew to 110 cows at its prime. Along with his love for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren came a deep love of being a farmer, which for him included milking cows. He also was a member of AMPI, and also a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was a past Elder. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Techen of rural Matlock, IA; daughter, Susan and her husband, Vernon Van Tilburg of Doon, IA; and son, Jeffrey and his wife, Luella (ne: Sohl) Techen of Ashton, IA; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene Sohl of Rock Rapids, IA and Elaine (Ken) Sohl of Rock Rapids, IA; sisters-in-law, Marlene Techen of George, IA; Jan Schilling of Little Rock, IA and brother-in-law, Ruben Winter of Sheldon, IA. Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Ella; brother, Arnold Techen; sister, Louise Winter; 3 nephews, Douglas Techen, Rodney Winter and Kevin Sohl; brothers-in-law, Ken Schilling; Dick Stevens and Al Sohl; sister-in-law, Marlene Stevens.
