Marvin Duane Mouw was born April 24, 1931 in Orange City, IA, the son of Harry and Wilmine (Mouw) Mouw. He lived his youth in Orange City. As he became older, he worked at many odd jobs. He mowed lawns as well as working for farmers. He began working at Vogel & Vande Brake paint, glass and wallpaper store in Orange City. Vogel & Vande Brake also had a retail store in Sibley, IA. There became a need for an interim manager for the Sibley store. Marv was sent as a temporary manager. While in Sibley he ate his lunch at Goulds Corner Café. He was attracted to the waitress who served him each day. They began dating and he and Delores “Dee” Winter were married on August 31, 1951. He continued managing the store. They had three children: Brian, Brenda and Brad. Also when Dee’s sister-in-law passed away, Marv and Dee took in their niece and nephew, Rick and Michelle Winter. In 1958 Marv and Dee purchased the business. They moved the store to a larger facility and renamed it Mouw Decorating. They expended the merchandise they sold to include floor covering, ceramic tile etc. He continued the business until retiring in 1995. He loved every minute he had the store. He got to meet and know so many people over the years. Marv was an avid golfer. Over the years he had four holes in one. After retirement he began working as a grounds keeper at the Sibley Golf Course. He also was totally in love with this job. He especially loved working with the high school and college students who worked there in the summer. He continued working each summer until 2013. After the golf course closed for the season, he looked forward to having coffee with the “City Boys” each morning, and with the group at Pronto each afternoon. Marv had total knee replacement surgery in September 2015, from which he never recovered. He became a resident of Sibley Specialty Care until his death on Tuesday, November 15, 2016. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Delores “Dee” Mouw; children, Brian (wife, Susan) Mouw, Brenda (husband, Walt) Grigas and Brad (wife, Leesa) Mouw; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces & nephews, Michelle, Rick and Jim Winter; two brothers, Harlan (wife, Clara) Mouw and Jim (wife, Audrey) Mouw; and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Wayne Ott. The family hopes Marv will be remembered as the fun loving, happy go lucky person he was before he became ill.
