Ashton, IA        Noel Schoo, age 89, of Ashton, IA died Thursday, November 17, 2016 at his home near Ashton.           Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, November 21st at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton, IA, with Father Siby Punnoose and Father Timothy Hogan concelebrating.        Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery at Ashton, IA.        Visitation will be Sunday, November 20th with family present from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton. There will be a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil service at 6:30 PM at the church Sunday.        Noel Schoo was born on November 25, 1926 in Ashton, IA, the son of Joseph and Pauline (Sieve) Schoo. He lived his entire life in the Ashton community. He attended St. Joseph’s school and graduated from high school in 1944.           In July of 1945, he was called to service in the Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged in February of 1947.           He married Lavina Lonneman on October 18, 1950 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton. The couple moved to a farm southwest of Ashton in the fall of 1953 and he lived there ever since. He was devoted to his Catholic faith, wife and family. Noel liked to play cards and was known for his sense of humor, firm handshake and always being on time. He loved to farm with his John Deere tractors and will be greatly missed.        Noel is survived by his six children: James Schoo of Sanborn, IA, Kathryn (Douglas) DeGroot of George, IA, Donna (Michael) Williams of Spirit Lake, IA, Diane (Joe) Poss of Rochester, MN, Robert (Kristil) Schoo of Ashton, IA and Gerald (Val) Schoo of George, IA and son-in-law Gary Iedema; eighteen grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and ten step-great-grandchildren; siblings: Darlene Goddard, Margelene Youngers, Joan Johannes, Phyllis Honkomp, Rosalie (Roger) Honkomp, Leon (Arlene) Schoo, Leo (Connie) Schoo, Marilyn (Bob) Mulhern, Carolyn (Jim) Lechtenberg; two sisters-in-law: Joyce Lonneman, Bonnie Lonneman; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.        He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters, Rosemary and Sarah; wife, Lavina; daughter, Janet Iedema; two grandchildren, Jeremy Schoo and Krystal Schoo; in-laws Clayton Goddard, Alfred Youngers, Laurence Johannes, Charles Honkomp, Lyle and Darlene Philiph, and Marlyn Lonneman.
