Merle John Wubbena

  Sibley, IA        Merle J. Wubbena, age 94 of Sibley, IA died on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at the Country View Manor in Sibley, IA.        Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2016 at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley, with Reverend Dale Lint officiating.        Burial will follow in the Gilman Township Cemetery in Ashton, IA.        Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.        Merle John Wubbena was born October 12, 1922 on the family farm near Ashton, IA to Benjamin M. and Lena (Rose) Wubbena. He was raised near Ashton and attended Country School and later graduated from Ashton High School.  He was united in marriage to Evelyn Frey on February 13, 1943 at Ashton, IA.  They made their home in Rock Rapids, Ashton and Sibley.            He was a member of the Sibley and Ashton First Presbyterian Churches.  Over the years Merle enjoyed hunting with his uncle, Dr. A.C. Wubbena, gardening, raising his Angus cattle and traveling with Evelyn.  He was also an avid antique hunter and collected fine German china among other things.  In the fall of 2011 Merle became a resident of Country View Manor in Sibley where he died this past Wednesday morning, December 14, 2016, at the age of ninety-four.        He is survived by his daughter, Diane Wubbena of Bloomington, MN; son, Dean Wubbena of Sibley, IA; two grandsons, Scott and his wife, Tamara Wubbena of Highlands Ranch, CO; Adam and his wife, Nikki Wubbena of Highlands Ranch, CO; along with four great grandchildren.      Merle was preceded in death by his parents; spouse of sixty-seven years, Evelyn; and sister, Cleo Winkel.        Family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Country View Manor.  Their kind and compassionate care given for both Evelyn and Merle Wubbena over the years and for that the family is truly grateful.
