Shirley M. Ackerman

Sibley, IA        Shirley M. Ackerman, age 77 of Sibley, IA died on Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Sibley Specialty Care in Sibley, IA.        Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, Dec. 21st at Zoar Presbyterian Church near George, IA, with Rev. Dale Lint officiating.         Burial will follow at Gilman Township Cemetery in Ashton, IA.         Visitation will be Tuesday, December 20th from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.         Shirley Mae Ackerman, the daughter of Peter and Sophie (Mohlenkamp) Johnson was born April 28, 1939 near Ashton, IA.  She was raised on a farm near Ashton and attended country school and Ashton Public School.            On September 10, 1956 she was united in marriage to Cecil Ackerman.  Together they farmed and raised their nine children east of Ashton.  The couple later moved to Sibley where she resided until entering into Sibley Specialty Care in September of 2016.  Shirley passed away on Friday, December 16, 2016 at the age of 77 years and 8 months.            Shirley was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ashton.  She enjoyed being a homemaker; cooking, cleaning, washing windows, gardening and canning.  She also liked dancing, taking family vacations, calling and visiting with friends, playing cards and Farkle (she especially enjoyed winning).  Most of all, she loved taking care of her kids and grandkids and spending time with her family, which was her pride and joy.     Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 60 years, Cecil Ackerman of Sibley, IA, her sons, Curt (Sharon) Ackerman of Crawford, NE, Calvin Ackerman of Primghar, IA, Craig Ackerman of Sibley, IA, Cecil Jr. (Brenda) Ackerman of Belgrade, MT, Corey (Colleen) Ackerman of Sibley, Chad Ackerman of Duluth, MN, Charlie (Brenda) Ackerman of Sibley, Clint (Lana) of Harrisburg, SD and daughter Susan (Jeff) Kruger of Sibley. Also surviving are her 32 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Cleo and Jake Ahrendsen and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dale and Jean Ackerman.            She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law Hazel and Harold Winkel, brothers-in-law and sisters-in law Kenneth and Margaret Ackerman and Glenn and Arlene Ackerman, 2 grandchildren; Jeremiah Ackerman and Desiree Ackerman and one great-grandchild Carrie Ackerman.
