Rock Rapids, IA Allan Swalve, age 72 of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly from George, IA died Monday, Dec. 19, 2016 at his daughter’s home near Rock Rapids, IA, while receiving care from Lyon County Hospice. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, December 23rd at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, with Rev. Olaf Roynesdal and Rev. Dan Kordahl officiating. Burial will be Friday at 3:00 PM at Roseni Lutheran Cemetery near Beresford, SD. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 23rd from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. Allan Ray Swalve was born July 2, 1944 in Algona, IA to George and Gesina (Janssen) Swalve. He was raised in Thompson, IA on the family farm and graduated from Thompson High School. He entered the United States Army in 1963 and served active duty in Germany until 1966. He returned to Sioux Falls and worked as a gas station attendant. During this time, Allan met and married Sharon Nadine Holthe. The couple were married at the Roseni Lutheran Church near Beresford, SD in 1967. To this union three children were born, Randy, Scott and Cindy. Allan first worked in Sioux Falls for Hiland Potato Chips. He and Sharon then moved to George, IA and owned Al’s Grocery Store there for 17 ½ years. He then worked at the lumber yard. In 1998 they moved back to Sioux Falls where Allan worked at Concrete Materials and most recently in customer service for HyVee. He loved to tinker in his shop and watch football. He enjoyed fishing, helping others with whatever they needed and making homemade ice cream. He was a member of the East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. This past Monday morning Allan passed away at his daughter’s home, where he was receiving hospice care, at the age of 72. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sharon Swalve; son, Randy (Amy) Swalve of Waterloo, IA; son, Scott (Mary) Swalve of Sioux Falls, SD; and daughter, Cindy (Brad) Witt of Rock Rapids, IA; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way; brothers, Lewis (Donna) Swalve of Garner, IA, Arlo (Lucille) Swalve of Hinton, IA, Lloyd (Linda) Swalve of Mabel, MN, and Cecil Swalve of Garner, IA; nieces and nephews and other extended family members. Allan was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry; nephew, Kevin; niece, Gayle; and sister-in-law, Joan Swalve.
