Hills, MN Rosa Sandstede, age 90 of Hills, MN died Sunday, January 1, 2017, at Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, MN. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Friday, January 6th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN with Pastor Maggie Berndt-Dreyer officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery near Steen, MN. Visitation will be Thursday, January 5th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills. Rosa Marie Sandstede was born December 27, 1926 at Kenneth, Minnesota, the daughter of Nels and Mary (Remme) Hovland. She was raised in Kenneth, MN and later moved to Luverne, MN where she graduated from Luverne High School in 1945. After graduation, she worked at Larken Law Firm in Luverne, MN. Rosa was united in marriage to Kenneth Sandstede on January 2, 1948 at the Sandstede family farm, near Steen, MN. After their marriage, they lived and farmed until 1978 when they moved to Hills, MN. Rosa enjoyed flower gardening, baking and making goulash which everybody loved. She and Ken enjoyed camping, were members of the Holiday Rambler Club and snowbirds for over 30 years. They enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Rosa loved the time spent with her family, especially playing board games with her grandchildren. In April of 2011 Rosa and Ken moved from their home to Tuff Memorial Village Assisted Living in Hills, MN. Rosa entered Tuff Memorial Home in May of 2014. On August 8, 2014 Rosa’s husband Ken died after 66 years of marriage. She remained living at the Tuff Memorial Home until this past Sunday, January 1, 2017, where she died surrounded by family, at the age of 90. She is survived by her children, Linda (Dennis) Schlacke of Longmont, CO and Terry (Glenda) Sandstede of Steen, MN; seven grandchildren, Wendy (Matthew) Schwartz of Lafayette, CO, Brian (Katie) Westerberg of Littleton, CO, Rachel (Jeremy) Hurshman of Fort Collins, CO, Laressa (Justin) Birger of Hills, MN, Deanna (Philip) Smith of Sioux Falls, SD, LaDonna (Nick) Freiborg of Sioux Falls, SD and Melinda (Chad) Kissell of Sioux Falls, SD; sixteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Sandstede; infant siser, Esther; two brothers, Leo and Elmer Hovland; four sisters, Hilda Jaqua, Gladys Watts, Peryl Berning and Amelia Frakes.
