Cornelia Van Westen

George, IA     Cornelia Van Westen age 94 of George, IA died Wednesday March 8, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society at George, IA.     Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday March 13th, 2017 at Hope Reformed Church in George, IA with Rev. Steve De Haan, officiating.     Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA.     Visitation will be Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the Hope Reformed Church of George, IA.      Cornelia (Cornie) Van Westen, the daughter of Leonard and Lubbertha (Bertha)(Evink) Korthals, was born on April 22, 1922 in a country home near Boyden.  She was the fifth child born in the family of three sons and four daughters.  She grew up in a hard working family.  She often said, "I just can't sit and do nothing". She was united in marriage to Evert Van Westen on March 21, 1940 which happened to be Evert's birthday.  Soon they became the proud parents of three daughters, Janice (Norman) Smith, Sharon Julius, and Wanda (Bob) Sietstra. Evert and Cornelia farmed together south of George for thirty-five years.  They retired to George where Cornie worked for more than thirty years as a CNA at the George Good Samaritan Center.  Cornelia lost the love of her life in 2009 and then moved from their big home in George to a comfortable apartment also in George.  She resided there until September 2016 when failing health forced her to move to the George Good Samaritan Center. Cornelia was an active member of the Hope Reformed Church of George, participating in the many ladies circle activities.  She enjoyed every second of life and loved everybody that she met.  Some of her favorite things were spending time with family, playing cards with friends, tending her many flowers, and enjoying craft projects and handiwork. Cornelia passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the George Good Samaritan Center at the age of 94 years, 10 months, and 14 days.       She leaves to cherish her memory, 2 daughters, Sharon Julius of George, IA and Wanda (Bob) Sietstra of Boyden, IA, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and one sister Katie Krull.       She was preceded in death by her husband Evert, daughter Janice, her parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and 1 son-in-law.
