George, IA      Marlene Kannegieter age 82 of George, IA died Monday March 20, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA.      Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday March 23rd at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, IA with Rev Dale Lint, officiating.   Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA.      Visitation will be Wednesday March 22nd from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.           Marlene (Hayenga) Kannegieter was born November 16, 1934, at her parent's home in George, IA, the daughter of Maurice Hayenga and Tillie (Klinkenborg) Hayenga. She grew up in George and graduated from George Community High School. She was united in marriage to Robert Kannegieter, Sr. on December 6, 1952 at Monroe, SD. They made their home at various locations before moving to George. For almost 30 years, Marlene was the Activity Director at Good Samaritan Center in George, a job she dearly loved. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, gardening and canning - always had canned goods to send home with relatives. Her home always had an open door for her relatives to stay when they came to George to visit. As an only child, Marlene considered all of her cousins her brothers and sisters. She was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women's Group and American Legion Auxiliary, in which she would have celebrated her 75th year of membership in May of this year. After Bob died in 2010, she continued to live on her own until she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in March in 2016, where she died this past Monday morning, March 20, 2017 at the age of eighty-two.      She is survived by her daughter, Ronda (Robert) VanBriesen of George, IA; son, Rob Kannegieter (friend Susan) of Cherokee, IA; 10 grandchildren, Mike Thompson; Kim (James) Collins, BJ (Devin) VanBriesen, Jessica (Justin) Overman, Kayla (Josh) Engel, Kandi (Eric) Poppler, Nikki (Mark) VanOort, Kelly (Kristi) Kannegieter, Tyler (Jessica) Kannegieter, and Lanaya (friend Chris Harringa) Kannegieter; 17 great-grandchildren, Kaylee Collins, Logan & Ryleigh VanBriesen, Jordyn, Jayla, & Jaxon Overman, Calvin & Tessa Poppler, baby Engel due in June, Kory, Addisyn and Dustin VanOort, Brock and Brittany Kannegieter, Aubrey, Leah, Liv, & Beau Kannegieter; son-in-law, Bob Thompson of Parker, CO; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Koger and Gladys Kannegieter both of George, IA; and numerous special nieces and nephews.    Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice & Tillie Hayenga; husband, Robert Kannegieter; and daughter, Linda Thompson.
