Randall Dean “Randy” Bruns, age 59, of Ashton, IA died Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Monday, March 27 at Jurrens Funeral Home in Ashton, IA with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Ashton. Randall Dean “Randy” Bruns was born July 20, 1957 at Sibley, IA the son of Otto and Evelyn (Prins) Bruns. He grew up in the Ashton and Sibley area where he attended school through the eighth grade. He married Paula Jeane Coulson on November 13, 1982 at Doon, IA. He lived briefly in Sibley before moving to an acreage near Doon, IA. Randy worked construction for many years, building elevators and moved small buildings. Most recently he worked for the Sioux City delivering newspapers to area communities. Randy enjoyed rebuilding or restoring old cars and spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed family gatherings and speaking German to many of his family and friends. He is survived by his two children, Tyler John Bruns of Rock Rapids, IA and Rebecca (husband, Donald) Mayo of Doon, IA; nine grandchildren, Rylie, Beau, C.J. Wyatt and Kaiyah and Xander, Gabriel, Greyor and Rogan; a sister, Carol Jean Perry of Sioux Falls, SD; a brother, Gordan Ray (wife Bonny) Bruns of Little Rock, IA; sisters-in-law, LeAnn Gerken and Phyllis Bruns; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Evelyn Bruns; a son, James Otto Bruns; four brothers, Richard, Marvin, Lawrence and Robert Bruns; and sister, Diane Redinius.
