Gladys Leah Knobloch

Lester, IA        Gladys Leah Knobloch, age 90 of Lester, IA died Monday, March 27, 2017 at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.            Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Friday, March 31st at the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester, IA.        Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in Lester, IA.        Visitation will be Thursday, March 30th with family present from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Hall in Lester.    Gladys Leah Knobloch was born January 16, 1927 at the Knobloch family farm near Alvord, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob “Jake” and Lydia (Traub) Knobloch.  She was raised on a farm and attended Logan Township #6 School, attending through the eighth grade.  As a young lady she helped area families with childcare and housekeeping until she began working at Manchester Biscuit Company in Sioux Falls, SD.  In 1948 she moved to Elgin, IL where she worked for her sister Dena and her husband Calvin Weiss, helping them run their barbeque restaurant.  In 1952 Gladys returned home and lived with her brother, Arthur.  In 1969 Gladys moved to Sioux Falls, SD with her sister, Betty, and began working at the Good Samaritan Society in the laundry department.  She retired in 1994 and moved to the Lester Retirement Apartments with her sister Eunice.  In May of 2012 she entered Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids, IA, where she remained until her death this past Monday, March 27, 2017.         In 1951, she, along with her sister Betty, was baptized and became a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester, IA.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family.        She is survived by siblings, Dena Weiss of Sabetha, KS, Dale (wife Mary) Knobloch of Rock Rapids, IA and Betty (husband Clarence) Dietrich of Sublimity, OR; sister-in-law, Elgeva Knobloch of Lester, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.        She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Lydia Knobloch; three sisters, Matilda Fehr, Eunice Knobloch and Ella Mae Schmidt; and four brothers, Nathan “Bud” Knobloch, Edwin Knobloch, Arthur Knobloch and Orvie Knobloch.
