Evelyn Jean Van Houten

Alvord, Iowa   Evelyn Van Houten, age 66 of Alvord, IA died March 29, 2017, at her home surrounded by family and friends.        A Celebration of Life service will be 4:00 p.m. April 15th at the Alvord Gun Club.        Evelyn Jean Van Houten was born March 4, 1951 in Rock Rapids, IA, the daughter of Arnold and Agnes (Garey) Stettnichs. She attended country school then graduated from Central Lyon. On September 12, 1970, she was united in marriage to Delmar Van Houten at the Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. The couple made their home in Alvord, IA for 46 years. Evelyn spent 40 years working for Total Component Solutions where she was an inspector. She belonged to the Alvord gun club for over 40 years. Evelyn enjoyed horses, dogs and spending time in nature, especially fishing and going for rides looking at wildlife. She also enjoyed crocheting and going deer hunting. But mostly, Evelyn loved spending time with family, especially her grandkids. Her family was her life. This past Wednesday March 29th Evelyn passed away at her home surrounded by loved ones. She will be greatly missed.      She is survived by her husband, Delmar Van Houten; children, Stacey Vogelzang of Alvord, IA and Sheila (Mike) Buss of Alvord; grandchildren, Adam Vogelzang and Mason Buss; brother, Doug Stettnichs of Modesto, CA.      Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Agnes Stettnichs; brothers, Lee, Lyle, Merlin; sister, Arla Kay Benedict; parents-in-law, Ben and Sophie Van Houten and brother-in-law, Alan Van Houten.
