Rock Rapids, IA        George L. Bruns, age 75 of Rock Rapids, IA died unexpectedly Friday, March 31, 2017, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.        Funeral service 10:30AM, Wednesday, April 5th at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, IA.      Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA.        Visitation will be Tuesday, April 4th from 2:00 to 8:00, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, IA.        George was born to George L. and Leta (Feldkamp) Bruns at home on a farm near Sibley, IA., May 9, 1941. His family moved to a farm by Little Rock, IA, when he was a small child. He lived there until he was married.        He attended country school where sometimes his mother was his teacher. He went to George Public School during his Jr. High years, and transferred to Little Rock Public School where he was the valedictorian of the Class of ’59. George attended Augustana College, Worthington Jr. College, and Mankato State College where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education and Physics. He did post-graduate work at South Dakota State College earning a Master’s of Psychology degree in 1967.        George taught school in Ellsworth, MN, from 1962-1968. He was the Guidance Counselor at Central Lyon High School from 1968-1974. He left teaching to farm after his father was killed in a farm accident in 1974. He sold grain handling equipment for Sudenga Industries, George, IA and MFS/York/Stormor, Grand Island, NE. George was on the original Board of Directors of Siouxland Ethenol, Sioux Center, IA.        George married Gayle Anderson from Sherburn, MN, and they had one son, George Dean Bruns. George lived his entire married life in Lyon Co. IA.        George attended the Tabernacle Church in George, IA. Over the years he served on several church boards, was an usher, and a trustee        He was the happiest when he was driving around “checking things” out. He also loved to visit with other people. He could talk “with anyone, about anything, at any time.”        George is survived by his wife Gayle and his son, George Dean of Rock Rapids, IA; his brother Lee and wife Jolene of Wall Lake, SD; his sisters-in-law Gloria Moore of Mankato, MN; Gwen Quesnell (Bruce) Whitehall, MT; Jennifer Sandstrom (Mark) Ellsworth, WI; and many nieces and nephews.          He was preceded in death by his father George L. Bruns, mother Leta Bruns, father and mother-in-law Arlin and Erma Anderson, and his nephew Robert Bruns.
